This week's What to Watch Wednesday theme is Summer Fun. With the sunny weather and the hotter temperatures, thoughts of summer vacation keep crossing my mind. So here are two family movies about summer I found on Netflix Canada.

Grown Ups 

2010, 4/5 stars, PG rating

"Five childhood pals reunite after 30 years at a lake house to mourn the loss of their old basketball coach, and act quite juvenile for their age."

I thought this was very entertaining, and found the different parent stereotypes particularly funny. Maybe you recognize some of the parenting styles in yourself or your friends. Also I liked the PG rating making the movie possibly appropriate for you to watch with your tweens, and teens.

Judy Moodie and the Not Bummer Summer

2011, 4/5 stars, G rating

"In this family film, never-dull third-grader Judy Moodie embarks on a summer adventure with her brother, Stink, and her always-up-for-fun Aunt Opal."

I love when there are movies the whole family can enjoy together, and anyone who is a fan of the Judy Moodie books is sure to enjoy the movie too.

I personally enjoyed all three of these, and if you have a teen why not sit and watch together.

I picked Mom themed movies for this week's What to Watch Wednesday from Netflix Canada in lieu of Mother's Day being only a few days away.

Motherhood

(2009) 2.5/5 stars, PG13

A financially strapped Mom wants to throw her 6-year-old daughter an amazing birthday party, but all of Manhattan seems to be conspiring against her.

I think the rating is about right for this movie. It is not winning any awards, but it was a cute watch.

I Don't Know How She Does It

(2011) 3.5/stars, PG13

In this affable yuppie comedy, Kate Reddy is a successful executive, wife, and mom whose personal and professional lives hang in precarious balance.

This was a cute movie. I could relate to the juggling, and that precarious balance between motherhood and the rest of ones life.

Happy Mother's Day to those celebrating, and wishing success in their parenthood dreams to all those hoping to be.

The Heat:

"Sandra Bullock heads the cast as a by-the-book FBI agent who forms an unlikely alliance with a maverick street cop to take down a Russian gangster."

I thought this was a fun light movie that would be great for a night when the kids are out. It is definitely not appropriate for younger kids, it has an R rating. I love Sandra Bullock, and Melissa McCarthy, and find their slap stick comedy works very well together. I am not sure I would pay to see this in the theatres, but it was certainly worth watching on Netflix.

Bridesmaids:

I can't even talk about this movie with my sisters without all of us breaking down in to fits of laughter. I  thought this movie was hilarious, and highly recommend it. It may appeal to the ladies more than the men, but there are plenty of laughs in the plot for everyone. It would be particularly good for a girls night! Get lots of snacks, and wine, and make sure no one has to drive. You will need a box of tissues for the tears: tears of laughter! Note this is definitely not a movie for young kids. It has an R rating.

This movie was recommended to me by my friend Todd, and based on this recommendation I will be watching it this weekend. He told me it was a Movie that was fun for the whole family. I can't wait to see it.

Here is another movie on my list "want to watch", and this the Easter weekend seems like a perfect time for the entire family to sit down and enjoy it. I have hear lots of positive feedback about The Guardians and can't wait to watch it.

This series is absolutely hilarious! Lots of dry British humour. I particularly like to watch it with my engineer Hubby who for more than 20 years has had to play the IT role, while I am the tech-illiterate one. It is a brilliant show, that pokes fun at so many stereotypes.

"In this procedural crime drama, Dr. Cal Lightman help the police by using his knowledge of human behaviour to determine whether a person is lying.

This is an excellent series, that is action packed, and never gets dull. Each episode is different, and leaves you wondering how the truth will come out. I like the fact the Dr. Cal Lightman is not perfect, and his faults make easier to relate to him.

I thought this was a quirky series, that was funny, entertaining, and often insightful. Life can be messy, and unpredictable, and there is often humour in that. I thoroughly enjoyed this series.

Top Gear (U.K.)
(32 episodes) 2003, 4/5 stars. TV-PG
"Jeremy Clarkson and his crew of car lovers test the limits of luxury vehicles in this hit show that also features celebrities racing on a test track."

I can't believe how many times I laugh during an episode of Top Gear. Season 17, episode 1 is a must watch! This is no boring, run of the mill show about cars. The dry british humour of the hosts makes this seem like more of a comedy with cars than a series about cars. I highly recommend this show for everyone, car enthusiast or not!
